Patrick A. Smith

Pat Smith has more than 48 years of experience delivering multidisciplinary professional services to the AEC industry and has been a Registered Professional Land Surveyor since 1984. He was the Owner and President of his own surveying company for 17 years and his career includes leadership positions with several national engineering and surveying firms. Pat joined SAM in 2011 and supports the CEO and COO in the company’s operations and business practices, including contract administration, risk management, regulatory matters, insurance and benefit programs, mergers and acquisitions, and client/project issues mitigation.

Pat is very active with industry affairs and stewardship. As a member of the Texas Society of Professional Surveyors (TSPS) since 1984, he has served in all its officer positions, including as TSPS President in 2000. He is also a longstanding member of the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS), serving as President in 2014 and currently as Chair of the NSPS Governmental Affairs Committee.

Pat’s favorite core value is People. He is amazed at the level of talent and energy in the people we attract to SAM and is excited to collaborate with and mentor them in growing their careers. He is very active in SAM’s Corporate Social Responsibility program and supports organizations such as TxDOT Adopt-a-Highway program, Ronald McDonald House Charities, and the HEB Feast of Sharing. Pat and his wife reside in Austin, Texas and enjoy spending time with their daughters and grandchildren.
