As part of the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP2) Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) for Concrete Tunnel Liners (R06G), SAM has contracted with Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) to examine different NDT methods to map voids, debonding, delamination, moisture, and other defects behind or within tunnel linings. SAM compiled data as part of a “proof of concept” to research the development of data utilizing high-end thermal photography with mobile LiDAR to collect tunnel linings for evaluation. Next, SAM collected Tunnel 4 in Clear Creek Canyon on Highway 119 and created standard LiDAR deliverables along with exploring different platforms to deliver the collected thermal data to CDOT. SAM successfully moved from R&D into production collecting nine more tunnels across the state including Hanging Lake tunnels and Beavertail tunnels.
