On Wednesday, July 19th, SAM was honored to host a signing ceremony, joined by ranking officials of the United States Army and Department of Labor (DOL) to officially commemorate and sign into agreement, our Geomatics Technician Apprenticeship program and the Memorandum of Agreement with the Partnership for Your Success (PaYS) program with the U.S. Army.
At SAM, we believe in the value of education and look forward to the impact these programs will have on our veterans and team members.
Geomatics Technician Apprenticeship Program
Our two-year apprenticeship program offers on-the-job training, competitive hourly pay, and a Journeyman Surveyor Certification. Completing the program will allow apprentices to progress in their careers faster while obtaining the training and certifications needed for their roles. Apprentices can also gain college credit while in the program, thus reducing or even eliminating the burden of student loans.
“I am proud of our teams and the effort that went into making this happen. This program is a testament to who SAM is, a true innovator both in business, and now in thinking differently about where we source our talent,” said SAM Chief Administrative Officer, Vivek Arora. “The apprenticeship program will be one of our crowning achievements as an organization. SAM decided to take action, and we hope this is just the beginning of so much more we can accomplish to provide opportunities for career growth.”
This program is set to transform the industry by providing opportunities for high school graduates, college interns, veterans, and veteran spouses to begin a rewarding career path as Geomatics Technicians. “The Texas Workforce Commission continues to invest in the future of our workforce and our returning veterans are a part of that investment,” said Commissioner, Alberto Treviño, III. “I appreciate SAM’s leadership for their support on this groundbreaking apprenticeship that benefits our service members, veterans, and the state of Texas.”
Partnership for Your Success Program (PaYS)
In addition to the apprenticeship, the PaYS program is a strategic partnership between the Army and various corporations, companies, and public sector agencies – and SAM is proud to be part of it. This program presents a unique opportunity for America’s soldiers to serve our country while preparing for their future careers. Through PaYS, the U.S. Army guarantees veterans five job interviews and potential employment after their service in the military.
“It was an honor to be part of the PaYS program’s valued support of our military Service Members as it continued its partnership with SAM. Land Surveying has a proud place in our nation’s history, with the industry’s practice tracing roots to our first Commander-in-Chief amongst other impactful Americans,” said MAJOR Toby E. Vira, Officer Strength Manager, Recruiting and Retention Battalion, Texas Army National Guard, and Authorized Signatory for the US Army PaYS program.
Since PaYS began in 2000, more than 12,000 employers have partnered with the program. We recognize the unparalleled skills, discipline, and work ethic that military service members bring to the table, and we are committed to providing them with a smooth transition into the civilian workforce.
“While we’ve always supported the military, our efforts have kept increasing. As a company, we are fortunate at SAM to be focused on industries that are growing, which allows us to provide our teammates opportunities to take care of their families,” said SAM President and CEO, Chris Solomon. “We look forward to continue to hire and honor the men and women who have served our nation and lead the way for other companies to follow our footsteps.”
