SAM Companies, the nation’s leading provider of geospatial and construction services, is pleased to announce that on August 6, 2021, it completed the acquisition of The Whiddon Group (TWG), a Texas-based company specializing in utility engineering services.
Headquartered in Austin, Texas, The Whiddon Group has delivered utility management, identification, coordination, inspection, and conflict analysis services on projects for departments of transportation, design-build and other contractors, engineering firms, and utility companies. Their services strategically complement SAM’s current utility engineering business and help expand the company’s service capacity, expertise, and client responsiveness across the transportation market sector.
SAM continues to expand its geographic footprint and service offerings through organic growth and strategic acquisitions. This acquisition continues SAM’s aggressive expansion, with this being SAM’s tenth acquisition in five years.
“We are very pleased to bring The Whiddon Group’s strengths to the SAM team,” said SAM President and CEO, Chris Solomon. “Their expertise and talented team will be a great addition to our utility engineering group, providing greater capacity and capabilities, and the relationships they’ve established with blue-chip clients and industry partners will be an outstanding asset as we continue to grow our business.”
Key Whiddon staff will be joining the SAM team as part of the acquisition, including President David Whiddon, who will continue to focus on business development, project management, and operations.
According to Whiddon, “Joining SAM is a great fit for our company. The national scope and range of SAM’s suite of services will bring new opportunities for growth and development for our team, and greater value to our clients.”
