Joseph Maldonado’s Kitchen Table: A Recipe for Success in Wellness
For Joseph Maldonado, a Field Technician III in our Melville office, the kitchen has always been more than just a place to cook—it’s where creativity meets wellness. When SAM Cares launched its March wellness campaign focused on home cooking, healthy eating, and meal prepping, Joseph consistently shared his home-cooked meals, inspiring others to make healthier choices. But for him, cooking isn’t just about eating well—it’s about the process, the craft, and the satisfaction of making something from scratch.
What got you into cooking at home?
“I couldn’t pinpoint exactly what got me into cooking, but it started when I was probably 9 or 10 years old. I would watch my parents cooking from the doorway in the kitchen and think to myself, ‘I could do that.’ When my mom finally let me try, I was off to the races.”
Do you have a favorite way to cook—grilling, meal prepping, or something else?
“Grilling, for sure. I don’t get to do it very often since I live in an apartment, but when I get the chance, I go all out.”
What’s your go-to healthy meal?
“A simple grilled chicken and steamed vegetables—it’s quick and easy.”
What’s your ultimate cheat meal?
“Probably a trip to a Brazilian steakhouse. I usually treat myself to one on my birthday.”
Any favorite cooking hacks or time-saving tips?
“I don’t really have hacks, but a technique I’ve become fond of is reverse-searing meat. I feel like it gives you the most even cooking, plus a great sear.”
Why is wellness important to you?
“Wellness has become more important to me as I’ve been trying to better myself. I’ve been making an effort to eat healthier and get more physical activity in.”
Whether it’s firing up the grill or perfecting a reverse sear, Joseph’s commitment to home cooking is a great reminder that wellness is built through everyday choices. Thank you, Joseph, for sharing your passion and inspiring us all to eat better and live well!
