SAM Expands Hydrographic Services

Surveying And Mapping® has expanded our hydrographic surveying capabilities to enhance the comprehensive set of geospatial services we offer to clients across all market sectors. Our twin-engine, 26-foot aluminum Workskiff, customized specifically for hydrographic operations, provides an ideal platform for surveys of near-shore and inland waters. This boat supports deployment of diverse geophysical technologies including single- and multi-beam echo sounders, mobile LiDAR, real-time 3D sonar, magnetometer arrays, pipeline and cable locators, sub-bottom profilers, side-scan and sector-scan sonars, and inspection class remotely operated vehicles. We are now equipped to meet all of our clients’ hydrographic needs in support of their oil and gas, electric energy, water, environment, and transportation projects. In addition, two new professionals have recently joined the SAM team to help lead our hydrographic surveying effort:


AUSTIN OFFICE

Robert Gearhart

Robert Gearhart is a Senior Project Manager with 28 years of experience in hydrographic and marine geophysical surveys for a variety of applications, including petroleum exploration and production, pipelines, environmental restoration, ecological studies, debris assessments, and marine archeology. Most recently, he was a Senior Project Manager and Lead Hydrographer for Atkins North America. His responsibilities at SAM include business development, project management, data QA/QC, and directing field operations.

Bob has a Master of Arts degree in Anthropology from the University of Missouri, Columbia. He is certified in multi-beam sonar by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and has extensive experience with a wide variety of marine geophysical systems. Bob is pre-certified with the Texas Department of Transportation for archaeological surveys and is operationally qualified under the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration guidelines to locate and mark submerged pipelines. He is active in The Hydrographic Society of America, the Western Dredging Association, the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association, and the Association of Petroleum Surveying and Geomatics.

HOUSTON OFFICE

Scott Hiller

Scott Hiller has joined the firm as a Senior Project Manager with ten years of experience in marine geophysics using advanced technologies to conduct complex hydrographic surveys. He was most recently a Lead Geophysicist and Project Manager with Terrasond in Houston and his experience includes managing technical staff, ensuring data quality, and interpreting geological profiles. He has performed advanced research in the petrochemical industry for subsea cable detection and fluorometer measurement of hydrocarbons.

Scott has performed graduate studies in Geological Oceanography at Texas A&M University. He is experienced with a wide range of geophysical systems and software and is certified by NOAA in shallow-water multi-beam sonar. Scott’s responsibilities at SAM will include business development, project management, data QA/QC, and directing field operations.
